We have had exciting growth over the past few years and we are delighted to introduce one of our newest employees, Leonard Cecil. He has been familiar with Louisville Switching for almost two decades and is a long time customer turned employee. Leonard tells us more about his unique journey to joining us in his own words below.

How did you end up in your position at Louisville Switching?

I worked, for 17 years, as the fleet equipment manager for a large carrier. Don and I met over a bid for spotting tractors and became friends as well as business associates. Our friendship led to discussions of a variety of topics aside from business and I learned to admire his wisdom and open-mindedness. In 2016 I was laid off and, in 2017, Don reached out to me. Louisville Switching had experienced rapid growth and he needed an experienced administrator for his Service Department. I started here in October, 2017 and love it!

What do you do at Louisville Switching?

My title is Service Department Administrator; my responsibilities range from Customer Service to computer entry to dispensing parts and tracking hours for payroll. On a larger scale, though, my responsibility is to streamline and assure the accuracy of all paperwork and processes to ensure our customers receive rapid service and accurate cost assessments.

What is your favorite part about your job?

Without question, it's the people. Louisville Switching is a group of skilled people, but they are also happy people. I've never worked in such a pleasant and supportive environment.

What keeps you busy when you aren't at work?

I have a terrible "I've gotta try that!" addiction that has led me into learning things like working in stained glass and silver-smithing. I recently downsized my living space and the gift of a plant has led to gradually converting half of a room to a plant community as cooler weather sets in. If you need fresh rosemary, parsley, or chives in January, come see me.

Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Seabrook Island, SC. It's a beautiful stretch of 3 and a half miles of mostly uninterrupted beach with 4-5 people on the shore at any time.

What is a fun fact that people might not know about you?

I recently took up photography and now lug a backpack full of cameras and gear everywhere on vacations. It's heavy, but reviewing the photos over the following winter is like taking that vacation all over again!

What are some trends you are excited about in your industry/specialty?

I'm very interested in the progress of self-driving vehicles and their impact on the transportation industry. The persistent shortage of drivers, coupled with advances in self-directed tractors will turn the industry on its ear.

Hours of service for long-distance trucking will become meaningless as long-haul routes can safely be delegated to computer-controlled vehicles, which will increase the efficiency and bring down costs. The tradeoff, however, will be the need for highly-skilled technicians to keep them running. Louisville Switching Service has proven to be the best at what they do and will continue to be a leader in this developing technology.
