Although Steve is not an employee of Louisville Switching, we consider him to be a part of our family. He is always willing to help us out when we need machine work done and has built custom parts and tools for us. His business is next door, and his door is always open. He has been a lifesaver for us more than once. We consider him our neighbor extraordinaire.

Steve has always had a wonderful sense of humor that keeps us laughing at Louisville Switching. When we asked him to answer these questions, his initial response was:

"I remember when you asked me to sit and get my picture taken for this... that poor camera, and now your website! Anyway, here goes..."

We truly love Steve! Get to know him a little better by reading through his responses to the questions below.

Tell us a little bit about the type of work you do at Louisville Switching.

The type of work I do at Louisville Switching is minimal compared to the rewards I receive from them. I am a machinist by trade. Occasionally I will get the guys out of a jam by fixing, manufacturing or pondering upon a part they are having difficulty with or are in need of. Mostly, I help them celebrate birthday meals by coming over empty handed and eating with them. I couldn't ask for better neighbors.

When you aren't at work, what keeps you busy?

When I am not at work, I enjoy fishing, boating and camping with my family during the warmer times of the year. During the shorter and colder days, I enjoy throwing another log on the fire and hanging out with my family.

Have you always been in this industry? If not, what brought you where you are today?

I started my machining business at 20 years old in my Dad's garage at his urging. I started machining parts for his sheet metal company, then for other customers directly. So I've been "making chips" ever since (27 years now).

What's one thing you love about what you do for a living?

The one thing I love about what I do for a living is looking for the part inside of a billet piece of metal or plastic, then helping it find its way out.

Tell us a little bit about what you do for fun.

For fun I enjoy hiking with my kids, playing music with my buddies and fixing, building and driving Hot Rods.

UK or UofL?

I went to U of L, but I don't follow sports except for NASCAR and Drag Racing. Really, I'd rather be fishing or making something.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know Steve a little better today. Check out our last employee spotlight on Devon Kiefer!
