Ottawa Yard Truck Refurb Update: Painting and Mechanical Work

As many of you know, our guys at Louisville Switching have been making a herculean effort these past few weeks to complete the refurbishment of an old yard truck to be displayed at our open house this coming Thursday, March 24. We recently updated our website with the latest pictures. Check them out here! We are hoping to show business owners that they can save money and get another lifetime out of their yard truck through the process of refurbishment.

The first stage of refurbishing a truck is disassembling the parts. The second stage is sending it off to the paint shop where it is steam cleaned, sandblasted, and fresh paint is applied. The last and final stage of the refurbishment process is performing all of the mechanical work. We do this part of the process in-house at Louisville Switching. Between now and Thursday, we will be finishing up the rest of the mechanical work, and will focus on steps two and three in this blog.

In the picture above, a worker is steam cleaning the frame and engine of the truck. Steam cleaning provides a deep cleaning of the truck and also allows the sand blasting to work more effectively. In the picture below, you can see a worker sandblasting the paint off of the truck to prepare it for a fresh coat of paint.

Below you can see disassembled steps and platforms laying out to dry after receiving a fresh coat of yellow paint, followed by a picture of the new freshly painted black frame. We use paper and plastic to cover the engine to protect it from the paint.

A few things we will be wrapping up on site at Louisville Switching before our open house:

  • Replacing the floor mat and headliners
  • Putting on a new set of tires
  • Installing new LED work lights and a new strobe warning light
  • Replacing damaged fender brackets
We hope you will be here on Thursday, March 24 for our open house where we will reveal the final product! We are going to position our refurbished truck next to two brand new Ottawa show trucks so you can see just how good a refurbishment can look!
