There is a company here in Louisville that has a very rich history in the shipping industry. Dating back to 1879, the Kentucky Trailer company, known then as The Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing Company, paved the way for shipping companies based out of Louisville, Kentucky.

History of the Kentucky Trailer Company

The Kentucky Wagon company produced two different styles of horse drawn wagons that were used for getting products from point A to point B. This continued until 1916 with the advancement of industry that ushered in motorized cars being utilized as an alternative to the horse drawn wagons.

In 1939, the U.S government had a special request for the Kentucky Trailer company. The Army needed to have flatbed trailers produced and they called on the Kentucky Trailer Company to make this happen. The company remained under contract, making these trailers until 1945.

Once the war was over, the company wanted to go in a bit of a different direction. They knew they wanted to expand their offerings beyond just the flatbed trailers that they were producing for the United States military. The company's main focus became providing options for their customers in the form of customization. They succeeded in their endeavor, so much so, that the company has now become the leading manufacturer of moving vans.

Where they are today

Today, the company is rapidly growing, having acquired Advanced Mobility & Shelter Technologies, a company that provides mobile medical field service operations. Their footprint is becoming one of a global operation, the future looks incredibly promising for the Kentucky Trailer company, whose humble beginnings began in Louisville, Kentucky.
