At the Mid America Trucking show, Don took a second to talk about a Fontaine fifth wheel on one of our Ottawa T2 trucks and explain why it is far superior to any other fifth wheel on the market.

Once we were introduced to this product we immediately wanted to develop a deeper relationship with Fontaine. All of the new trucks that we order on speculation from this point forward are going to be equipped with the Fontaine fifth wheel.

Differences between a Fontaine fifth wheel and competing brands

  • A Fontaine fifth wheel is made specifically for a yard truck, so it's a perfect fit.
  • Instead of having jaws that come up to grab your king pin like on most trucks, the Fontaine fifth wheel has another bar that comes across and locks the king pin in place, making it more secure.
  • Structural safety checks were built into the fifth wheel that prevent the driver from accidentally high hooking and dropping his trailer.
  • The Fontaine fifth wheel has wear plates, one on each side that can be easily removed. Held on with 4 bolts and nuts.
  • If you have to do work on your fifth wheel, it can be taken apart and rebuilt in 15 minutes. (Other fifth wheels take about three hours to take apart and rebuild.)

Don says, "We are very proud to be a key dealer with Fontaine." When it comes to safety and efficiency, nothing competes with the Fontaine fifth wheel. Check out the video below!
