Chuck Duggins is the Louisville Switching Service Manager. Chuck receives countless questions every day about the functioning and facts of Ottawa trucks. In our latest blog series, "Ask Chuck," we thought we would share Chuck's answers to some of the five most common questions that routinely get asked.

The first question in our 5-part series is:
Where do I find the serial number on an Ottawa on-road or off-road truck?

Chuck says:
  • All newer trucks are assigned a six digit serial number.  Older trucks had a five digit serial number.
  • Only DOT/EPA trucks are assigned 17 digit vehicle identification numbers (VIN).
  • The serial number is not part of the VIN.
  • Serial numbers are required when ordering parts or when calling for a service technician to assist you with your Ottawa truck.
  • The VIN is stamped on the plate fastened to the side door jamb.
  • The serial number is a separate number from the VIN number and is stamped into the left frame rail near the cab suspension.
